The beach is ceremonially significant - twice a year it fills with thousands of Balinese carrying holy effigies and offerings to the sea in the Melasti ritual before Nyepi. Outside of ceremony days it is one of the calmer beaches on the Bukit, with less surf power than Padang Padang or Balangan and clear, swimmable water in the dry season. A new access road and parking area have opened it up in recent years, and several clifftop restaurants and a beach club have established themselves above. The approach through the limestone karst is spectacular on its own terms.
