The village sits at around 700 metres in the east of the island, and the view from almost anywhere in it - rice terraces cascading down toward the valley floor, the volcano rising behind them in the mornings when the cloud lifts - is one of Bali's enduring landscapes. The weaving workshops on the main lane produce songket (gold-thread brocade) and ikat textiles using techniques passed down through generations; many are open to visitors. For food, the Warung Sawah and similar valley-floor warungs serve traditional east Balinese cooking with views to match. Accommodation is a handful of guesthouses and small boutique stays. The drive from Denpasar takes about 90 minutes along roads that wind through coffee and vanilla plantations.
